Hi shalini …. It was a nice piece to read and I really like the way u have taken the it forward … it also gives me an idea on the mindset of the modern elite in the society…..U have opened the entire debate with the two very important questions … am I free ? and Freedom form what ? And u have also said that u r in chain ….i was really remained of my philosophy calls room when I red that Line I was remained of J J Rousseau and His Famous Statement man is born free, but he is everywhere in chains, a statement became the very base for many revolutions in the world …. What he meant as Free or Freedom is completely different from how you have understood the concept of freedom… I will tell you how… u have said “I often question myself am I free… free to do what I feel like… free to get wet in the rain..free to hug someone… free to tell someone I love u… free to run to that last corner of the world…free to just not do anything… free to eat anything without bothering how much weight I will put on… free to love whoever I want to… free to fall in love… free to just run backwards… free to do things which I dream of…” here I could see more I s then freedom… and ur understanding of freedom is more centered towards an individual … and they not freedom, freedom is something denotes a collective meaning… what you have mentioned here are the Rights of an individual… ..Propagating individual rights as an individual freedom is a very dangerous phenomenon and it’s direct out of a consumer values …
Yes you have the right to say that u love me () and u have got the right to hug some one.. if this natural rights are taken as personal freedom then I should have the freedom to kill some one whom I hate …and if doing thing as I like becomes a freedom ... we have to give the same freedom to some one to kill all the animals and the other person the freedom grow marijuana in the kitchen garden..Etc
So freedom and rights are two different concepts and always misunderstood with one another … rights are guaranteed, limited and common to all the individuals… but freedom is unlimited and it’s a collective effort of the people for the common good.. to understand the concept of freedom we need to understand the sociological evolution of man … the concept of surrendering some individual rights for unlimited freedom for the common good was evolved when men was a food gathered… it was then the man lived a collective life with absolute freedom… all the decisions and action was in favor of the group with which he lived… he had no children of his own.. no wife of his own.. no house of his own … for him all the children in the group are his own kids … all the women who liked him became his wife ( might sound bit hard ) when he cried the entire community was with him to cry … his pain was their pain and their pleasure was his pleasure…. But things became completely different when he became a food producer ….. it was a time when he owned the land .. he wanted to have his own children his wife(s) even his own beast not that he loved them all but he wanted a free or cheap labors … he started claiming things for himself , not ready to share things with the community which let to all division in the society …. And it was a time he took back the rights he surrendered for the common good …and he was forced to surrender by the mighty and powerful who ultimately became the king …
this sense of Mine and I became even more worse in today’s world and made even highly educated persons like u to say “ Freedom is the ability to live my life as I want, without modifying myself for the benefit of society ” for me this is the Most Dangerous attitude of the modern day elite … ( I really don’t know u but I really like to be ur friend and this my criticism about ur write up that’s it ) ok if this the what freedom to u and me and for every one … y a psychopath and rapist can live his life as he wants … y do we punish a criminal after all he wants to his life as he wants with out modifying himself for the benefit of the society ?
In short: If you want to change it’s a time to change, and I feel ur good in looks too

You are absolutely right……teachers have tremendous power. Even most of the parents turn up saying, “my child says I will do (about a task)in this way because Ms Jyoti said it so” and also if parents want their child to do something they ask us teachers to convince the child. Most of the children take teachers as their role- model. So I really appreciate ur idea of setting an example in front of children

This is what we teachers r supposed to do. I have two students of age 10 and 11 studying in 5th std. Both r brothers and always quarreling. They do not share even a pencil, and if one does out of my compulsion, the other will have a hell of a time at home. I could understand the severity of this when one day they had a homework to do about family relationship, wherein they had to writ abt the love of family members. I asked them if they loved their parents, and if the parents loved them. Their answer was in the affirmative. When I asked them if they loved each other, their face fell and they would not even look at me. Then I made them say " I love Ebin, he is my brother" and "I love Bibin, he is my brother".They were asked to repeat the same for some time. They were secretly glancing at each other and smiling. After sometime, when one of them needed an eraser, the other one readily offered it, and the first one happily accepted it. Even their mother told me that she has noticed a change in their attitude towards each other. I think we teachers can do wonders, and only we can do that. Congrats!!!Shalini well done.
